Nokia Bikin Symbian Jadi Open-Source

Cyberx-RAW.tk, Jakarta – Nokia announced that Symbian platform source code of this latest version is available under the open-source license. Why does Nokia do this?
Nokia decided to use the operating system (OS), the main Windows Phone on the smartphone. But the Finnish company is planning to 'continue the evolution of' software.
Symbian had become a jewel in Nokia's throne. OS itself is spectacularly failed to follow the fast pace smartphone industry. In fact, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has admitted it.
The company saw its market share eroded mighty rivals, including IOS Apple, Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone. While Symbian is still unsuitable for use in developing countries while in western countries this OS has lagged far behind.
This causes the Nokia to be too concerned. This is the reason the company announced switch to using Microsoft's Windows Phone in February and left the Symbian platform and MeeGo who has desperately been developed.
This movement makes the developers anxious. Although there is assurance efforts of both companies, the open-source Symbian Nokia believes can still be saved.
Head of the division of open-source Symbian Nokia Petra Soderling announced, the period of transition provided the source code Symbian Symbian Foundation and new models Nokia has been completed. Nokia also promises a life in the platform.
"While Nokia and Microsoft are negotiating the definitive agreement the two sides and began to produce the device cooperation, Nokia plans to ship 150 million Symbian smartphones and continue to update the OS," Soderling claims.
To achieve all this, Nokia needs to work with platform development partners. "We worked hard to change the most fundamental ingredient of the Symbian Foundation into a new framework, such as checking the ownership and use rights of the masses of documents".
"We are proud to announce, almost all have been uploaded in the source code collab.symbian.nokia.com. Some source files, equipment and the remaining documents will be uploaded the next few weeks, "he continued.
Soderling claimed, the platform is still far from open-source ignores what has been done Nokia. "The code is shared platform here is, open-source code and other code that OEMs developing platforms with Nokia," said Soderling.
"Commercial products are sold to customers not 'fully open' because consumer protection laws, guarantees, and security reasons." As part of the Finnish company's new direction was against Symbian, Nokia did with the version number.
When is the release of Symbian ^ 3 itself up to now still unknown, Symbian ^ 4 certainly does not exist. Soderling claimed his company is committed to continue to evolve the platform that will provide additional improvements to partners, customers, and users had.
While some parties considered the version number of Nokia as a tacit acknowledgment that states the age of Symbian will not be long until the next generation. Yet many developers still hope there is life in the OS that once ruled the world.
